James ‘J-dawg’ Whiteside – Surf Instructor (Volunteer)
Hi, I’m a local loon living in Lossie and have been lucky to have surfed around the world. I’ve been volunteering at SurfABLE since 2018 and it’s great to see our surfers challenge themselves and grow in confidence over the years.

Natalie ‘Nat’ Montgomery – Surf Coach (Volunteer)
I’m a local Primary Teacher, originally from NI. I spend my free time in either the hills or the sea. Through volunteering for SurfABLE, I can support others to access the benefits and enjoyment of shared experiences in the outdoors.
Caorann ‘Coz’ Fosbrooke – Surf Instructor (Volunteer)
Hello! I am Caorann, an engineer with a huge passion for surfing, the ocean, and its benefits. Around my engineering day job, I immerse myself in surfing as much as possible, whether it’s getting in the waves, learning the craft of shaping wooden surfboards, or getting involved with SurfABLE. I am an experienced surfer and qualified surf instructor, who has been lucky enough to experience surfing in Scotland most of my life, so now I am delighted to help play a part in spreading the stoke of surfing to others with SurfABLE. I am really looking forward to developing my own skills as an instructor and helping surfers of all ages & ability progress their surfing.
Philip Schonken – Surf Coach (Volunteer)
I’m a local senior school teacher, originally from South Africa. I grew up in and around the ocean, loving all my time in the water. A qualified surf lifesaver and trainer, I am passionate about people being safe in the ocean.

Karien Van Elk – Surf Coach & Advisor (Volunteer)
My name is Karien van Elk and I volunteer for Surfable Scotland. I also have an advisory role for them as a physiotherapist.
I came to England in 2000 and have been working for the NHS since then. I recently moved to Moray from Manchester with my daughter and dog. We absolutely love it here; enjoying the nature and friendly people. I am so happy to have been introduced to Surfable Scotland and to be able to help them with their cause.
